Waitomo Caves Visitor Centre

The Waitomo Caves Visitor Centre is a spectacular gateway to the Waitomo Glowworm caves. This impressive, award winning building also serves the wider community as a premier conference and dining venue.

Holmes Fire provided a number of unique fire engineered solutions on this project including:

  • Assessment of the unprotected structural timber shell canopy;
  • Justification of the EFTE pillows that form the roof;
  • Removal of the need to treat the decorative timber wall panelling with fire retardant; and
  • Omission of fire detection beneath the shell canopy.

Our vital role on this project enabled the architectural freedom required to achieve the unique features of this beautiful and functional building.
