The Auckland War Memorial Museum is one of New Zealand’s iconic heritage buildings. The Grand Atrium upgrade project involved the construction of a large suspended bowl auditorium structure in an existing open courtyard within the building.
Holmes Fire provided the fire engineering design for the project and added significant value through:
- Rationalisation of the number of exits and egress routes;
- Structural fire engineering to minimise the fireproofing required for structural steel; and
- Justifying the extensive use of architectural timber linings.
