The Awataha Plaza is an extension to an existing building on the Akoranga campus of Auckland University of Technology. The building provides a large open foyer space and two lecture theatres with capacity for 150 and 300 people.
Although the foyer space is primarily a thoroughfare and waiting area, it was to be designed as a multi-function space, with varying potential uses and occupant loads.
Holmes Fire developed a fire detection system design that minimised the likelihood of false alarms. Additionally, our engineers undertook detailed evacuation assessments to ensure the large occupant load was able to evacuate safely.
Holmes Fire was able to minimise the extent of new fire services required in the existing building, avoiding disruption to this area during construction.
