Following the major earthquake in Christchurch in February 2011, the building was significantly damaged and so the project involved stripping back the building to the base structure and fully refurbishing the interiors. The client pushed for a rapid program and sought Holmes Fire’s involvement early in the development such that the building could be one of the earliest builds for new office buildings after the earthquake.
The building was fit out for use by the Canterbury District Health Board. Holmes Fire prepared a Verification Method (C/VM2) design to afford the tenant a high level of flexibility for the use of different areas of the building. Through the application of evacuation and fire modelling software tools, Holmes Fire was able to rationalise the provision of a single stair to the Penthouse level thereby increasing the net lease-able area.
